Press Releases

Balls Brothers, one of London’s most famous wine bar groups, has renewed its contract with The Drury Tea & Coffee Company. Drury supplies all 18 units of Balls Brothers with filter coffee and espresso systems in an unbroken association dating back to 1990. Now Balls Brothers has renewed its contract and Drury has commenced an installation programme that will see most units equipped with the latest Classe 6 espresso coffee machines from Rancilio.

HAY’S GALLERIA

The branch at Hay’s Galleria, overlooking the Thames on London’s Tooley Street, is a good example of the rapport between the two companies. It is a busy location and so much more than a wine bar. Staff are continuously serving meals throughout the day from early lunches to dinner and the restaurant has several private function rooms available for hire. This branch even has its own Petanque pitch for use by customers.

It offers an extensive menu of Drury coffees - filter coffees, which it serves from vacuum flasks - and, increasingly, speciality coffees, such as Cappuccino, Espresso and Latte. Drury has replaced the existing Midi model espresso machine with the very latest Rancilio Classe 6 compact two-group semi-automatic machine. Assistant Manager, David Blair, uses Drury’s Siena blend espresso coffee beans through the machine: "We receive so many compliments about the quality of our coffee. Siena certainly seems to suit our customers’ taste". In fact, it is just one blend in a range of 14 espresso coffees in the Drury portfolio, believed to be the most extensive on the UK market.

CLASSE 6

The Classe 6 is a new machine from Rancilio launched to critical acclaim in the autumn of 2004, following extensive testing amongst selected customers. Trial sites reported that it is easy to use, reliable and versatile.

The Classe 6 is aesthetically very pleasing, presented in contrasting stainless steel with anthracite trim. It is available in 2 or 3-group models with an option on the 2-group version of compact or standard boiler size. For the majority of its outlets, including Hay’s Galleria, Balls Bros has specified the compact 2-group, which takes up a minimal amount of valuable counter space.

Drury delivered the new machine, installed it and commissioned it. Then the company’s barista trainer, Cathy Spring, visited the branch to train staff on its use and to explain the technical advances over the previous model.

Talking of the new machine, David added: "I was very cautious about changing machines, since the previous one had been so reliable. I need not have worried; the changeover went like clockwork and my staff love the new model. Everything about the Drury service works - consistently good coffees, reliable equipment and friendly, efficient staff".

The Classe 6 2-group compact semi-automatic machine, as chosen by Balls Brothers, has a list price of £2185.
