Sixteen months ago, Café Bon-Bon, a thriving café bar in Clapham’s bustling Abbeville Road, was the first ever customer to have a Rancilio Classe 10 espresso machine fitted with a TSC auto frother, which deskills the art of milk foaming. The machine is part of a system package provided by The Drury Tea & Coffee Company, which also includes Drury’s own Café Siena blend of coffee beans.

CAFÉ BON-BON 

The café bar, which serves speciality coffees and other beverages, light lunches and healthy takeaway snacks, was opened in 2002 by Nick Loizou. He has had experience in the café bar trade in other parts of London and had used Drury and Rancilio equipment there, too. It was no surprise then, that he appointed Drury again for the Bon-Bon project.

Following a tasting, Café Bon-Bon chose Café Siena blend of espresso coffee beans from Drury’s extensive portfolio of 14 different blends. Drury also installed Rancilio’s new Classe 10, 3-group fully automatic espresso machine for a trial period. This was the first of an all-new range of advanced espresso machines to be launched in the UK. Bon-Bon has been delighted with its performance from the very first cup.

Speaking of the coffee, Nick had this to say about Drury: "Café bars are quite rightly judged primarily by the quality of their coffee. With Siena blend, we’ve hit on a taste that’s punchy enough for espresso, yet mellow and flavoursome in cappuccino and latte".  

RANCILIO CLASSE 10

The Classe 10 is a new range of automatic espresso machines available in 2, 3 or 4-group models. The machine is an all-metal construction that combines sleek yet understated styling with famed Rancilio reliability. It boasts many innovative features including microprocessor controls, a complete fault diagnostic system, advance service and water softener regeneration notification, a pre-programmable automatic cleaning function, pre-set timed on/off settings, correct coffee grind head sensors and a full audit facility.

TSC AUTOMATIC FROTHER

An option on the Classe 10, which Café Bon-Bon has found invaluable, is the TSC auto milk frother. The TSC (Temperature System Cappuccino), developed by Rancilio itself, de-skills the art of milk frothing. Bon-Bon staff place the TSC steam wand in the milk and the device automatically steams the milk to the pre-set temperature, followed by a crucial self-clean cycle. The TSC is much easier to use than first generation auto-frothers and produces a far superior result.

Nick again: "The TSC is a foolproof system. We hardly ever bother to froth milk manually now. Not only does the TSC produce a superior foam with micro bubbles, it leaves us free to serve customers whilst the milk is frothing. We have found the combination of Drury coffee and Rancilio equipment unbeatable. Our customers think so to, judging by the compliments we get for our coffee!"
